Everyone is Irish for at least one day per year, and in West Michigan it’s no different. The twin epicenters of Irish shenanigans on St. Patrick’s Day are Pentwater and Ludington, where the traditions run as strong as the Guinness.
2013 events really kick off with the annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade, Saturday March 16 at Noon, beginning at the south end of Pentwater village. And they don’t end until at least 11pm, with parade prizes, both at the Antler Bar in Pentwater and at the Holiday Inn Express in Ludington, drink specials at the Antler Bar, shopping and dining specials around both towns, and a somewhat organized pub crawl.
If you’re looking for a healthy start to your holiday, or at least an excuse to partake in a few green beers later in the day, you can begin St. Patrick’s day with a 5k Irish Jig (run) in Ludington, starting at North James Street Plaza at 10am. Registration begins at 9. Although we don’t recommend trying to run if you’ve just been to the Kegs & Eggs Breakfast at Sportsman’s Irish Pub, which begins at 9am as well.
St. Patty’s is more than just wearing green. If you want to go all out, Pentwater and Ludington are the place to be in 2013. See you there.
